Proprietary Software Licenses

Proprietary software, also called nonfree software, means software that doesn't respect users' freedom and community. This means that its developer or owner has power over its users. To know more about this please see here.

Usually these type of softwares also require you to buy a license. We have a license server with the aim of serving licenses to all machines in the Lorentz Institute should they need to run a proprietary software. However, we do not have unlimited number of licenses, therefore a license must be available for you to use a proprietary software.

The university now has campus-wide license for matlab, therefore everyone has unlimited access to the software, please see https://nl.mathworks.com/academia/tah-portal/universiteit-leiden-31485292.html

Read here for more info and examples, including how to use our licensed software when off-campus.

Matlab

Matlab can be downloaded here.

For an extensive guide on how to use matlab while at work or using your laptop away from office, please refer to this document.

Mathematica

Please refer to this document.

Other

Should you want to buy extra licenses or a new license for a proprietary software that is not installed on the system, please contact bestellingen@lorentz.leidenuniv.nl.
